Oil painting classes on the Gold Coast, Australia
Two years ago, I began my teaching journey, bringing together two of my loves; art and connecting with people. Artists tend to be solitary creatures as our work requires hours of isolation in our studios. With the chance to bring my experience to my teaching, I find joy and satisfaction in uncovering hidden talents and unique personalities in all my students.
With the opportunity to share my knowledge with my students, I always find myself learning from the experience. Helping my students requires constant problem solving and moving from project to project is a hard but rewarding job. When we have the opportunity to learn new skills and find new methods in our artistic journey, we gain a collective creative experience.
It is a pleasure to work with likeminded people that share the same passion for art and learning. We have created a beautiful community where we support, encourage and inspire each other.
The Healing power of ART
“Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colours flowers, so does art colour life.” ~John Lubbock (1834-1913), “The Pleasures of Life”
Through my class, painting becomes a mediation that helps soothe your soul and unlock your passion. Art can help you build self-esteem and create new ways to express yourself.
My classes include teaching ‘Oil for beginners’ and also mentoring classes where I help my students work with their own projects under my guidance.
Oil for Beginners
In my ‘Oil for beginners’ course we learn how to:
· Work with oil;
· Understand tonal value and work with a grey scale;
· Create a monochromatic background. This entails using only one colour, which makes it easy to concentrate on tonal values and proportions;
· Create a colour wheel;
· Mix colours;
· Create vivid colours;
· Avoid muddy colours;
· Darken and lighten a colour naturally the way nature does it for a realistic appearance.
In this oil course you will complete 2 monochromatic paintings and 2 in colour.
In this course I offer technical support, practical advice, critiques, lessons, challenges, tips, and strategies - all in a friendly, positive, uplifting, fun and supportive forum.
During this class I will share all the techniques and tips I have learned with painting with oil. We will explore your materials and paints, learn about traditional and non-traditional oil colour techniques, experiment with colour and composition and find and develop your own unique style.
As a group sometimes students want to collectively learn about a specific subject together. We can tailor our classes to suit who we have in our classes, once we learned how to paint portraits, focusing on detailing the eyes, nose, lips and ears, other times we have focused on floral arrangements, seascapes or animal portraits.
