Archie is a beautiful and character-filled companion who holds a very special place in Lucy's heart. Known for his striking eyes and his favorite vantage point on top of the couch, Archie is a cherished member of the family with a wonderfully distinct personality.
 
This portrait was commissioned by Lucy as the second piece in her growing custom artwork collection from the studio. Following a previous tribute to her family's beloved cat, Rosemary, this commission was dedicated entirely to celebrating Archie's vibrant spirit and unique presence.

Capturing Archie's Character
 
From the reference photos, the clear priority was capturing the complex, luminous quality of Archie's coat and his expressive, colorful eyes. Cat fur presents an incredible technical challenge, requiring countless layers of warm and cool tones to make the coat truly glow and reflect light naturally on the canvas. Special attention was also paid to rendering the soft, subtle textures of his belly fur.
To complement his soulful gaze, Archie was set against a rich background featuring vibrant red cyclamens. The bold floral setting provides a striking contrast to his multi-tonal coat, creating a beautiful depth that brings the entire portrait to life.
