A portrait can hold both strength and softness at once. When Andrew reached out to commission a portrait of Goose, his beloved German Shepherd, he described her as a big, powerful dog with the sweetest and gentlest nature. That became the heart of the painting.

Goose’s reference photo captured her expression beautifully — calm, soulful, and deeply present. To honour both her noble German Shepherd presence and her gentle personality, we chose a grand Heirloom canvas in landscape orientation, giving the portrait room to breathe and allowing her character to fill the scene.

Andrew loved the idea of placing Goose within a warm, tree-filled background inspired by autumn park photos he had shared. Rather than keeping the original garden setting, I created a custom-painted autumn backdrop with golden tones, soft depth, and a quiet sense of warmth around her.
The result is a portrait that feels both commanding and peaceful — Goose surrounded by the kind of landscape that naturally suits her colouring, her expression, and her calm presence.
